Camcor

The trust’s site in Camcor is 21 acres of a larger forested area, in the foothills of the Slieve Blooms mountains in Co. Offaly. Camor is an aluvial woodland, referring to the soil sediment deposit from the river’s natural flooding, which is a rare habitat type in Ireland.

The currently pristine Camcor River runs through it. The river houses a unique species of fish, the Croneen Trout, is only found in the Camcor River. The braided river results in small wooded islands filled with ancient hazel trees. There is a wide variety of ground in the woods and in the grasslands outside. Buzzards, dippers, siskins, jays and fieldfares are among the birds recorded here.
